Unclaimed World is a Colony Survival game where you scavenge and work the land to gather the resources you need to keep your colonists alive… much like other colony survival sim games.
The game starts with three colonists of Tau Ceti, who have crashed on an island with nothing more than their PPU, a device, much like one from a popular apocalyptic fallout based game, that basically explains how to play the game and survive… conveniently.
Armed with your PIP… I mean PPU… you have to set up a colony and survive using the resources you find around you, while at the same time fighting off whatever nasties may be lurking around the corner.
Playing Unclaimed World
The game mechanics and UI of Unclaimed World take a little while to get used to. The tutorial does a good job of easing you in gently, but it still took me a while to really work out how to play. With that said, once you get the hang of the mechanics, this game is quite deep and detailed, and offers a lot of flexibility.
The graphics style looks quite dated and busy at first glance, but when you actually stop to look closely, the detail in the art is actually very good, and the texturing of the maps is not just a cut and paste of the same rock and patch of dirt over and over again. It looks as though some real time has gone into the artwork of the maps and environments.
All in all I’m quite impressed with Unclaimed World. I honestly wasn’t expecting much from it, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised.
